Match the expertise to the job

A bookkeeper, a tax adviser and an auditor do different jobs. Audits must be signed by a licensed audit firm; tax representation may require a registered tax agent (for example with the UAE FTA). Ask which qualifications and registrations apply to your work.

Questions to ask

A short call answers most of these.

  • Have you handled businesses like mine in this country?
  • Who will actually do the work, and who reviews it?
  • What exactly is included, and what costs extra?
  • How do you share documents securely?
  • What do you need from me and by when?

What a good proposal contains

A written proposal should state the scope, deliverables, timeline, fee, what is excluded, your responsibilities and how the engagement ends. Government fees should be listed separately.

Be careful with anyone who guarantees a refund, a tax saving or a result with an authority.

Frequently asked questions

Is the cheapest quote the best?

Compare scope, not just price — a low fee that excludes key work can cost more.

Should my accountant be local?

They should know the country’s rules and portals; physical location matters less.

Can I change accountant mid-year?

Yes, with a proper handover of records and portal access.
